On May 5th 2007 Empire Arcadia Inc. and its associates introduced to America the first stand for gamers; calling forth a demonstration and conference as to where gamers would answer one of the most tragic events in American history. It is called “Gamers Unite Against Violence”. The purpose of the demonstration was for gamers to post their voice to the world about their thoughts on violence and to demonstrate the true behavior of gamers at large. PBC Productions an upcoming videogame community media organization was one of the few interested in covering the event at large and decided to truly document on video the historical event. This documentary along with the many other articles that covers the movement led by Empire Arcadia will now set in stone the very foundation of the first gamer’s voice on the subject.
The original concept for the “Gamers Unite Against Violence” was to gather a bunch of gamers in Bryant Park which is close to 42nd street Time Square to play their Nintendo DS, GameBoy Advance and PlayStation Portable in a peaceful demonstration. This would have possibly brought changed to the outlook society still has against gamers. |
Plans were changed with less than week before the conference and demonstration which led to an alternative location that was created for the event. Some of the original gamers that were set to attend were lost as information that was suppose to get out to them about where the relocation of the event was suppose to be.
Things became jumbled between 3 different websites. This mainly was due to the over pushing of the event. Information was both being released too late or individually between its original source Empire Arcadia and its associates at the time.
Ultimately gamers were blamed as being unorganized and not getting the information out in time. Empire Arcadia however took responsibility of last minute issues though and secured a place where gamers could demonstrate gaming at NYCLAN. The issue was brought up to Kia Song by TriForce himself because he felt that the venue to hold the conference and play games was not secured to his standard and wanted to have a plan B incase things did not work out. Thanks to GGN’s Becky Young and Epileptic Gaming Radio, TriForce was hosted on their show and gave warning about the location being changed from Bryant Park. TriForce told listeners to stay tune to Empire Arcadia’s website for information about the new location. See: http://www.empirearcadia.com/community/com-107.htm. JC Media took care of the conference room by speaking with administrators at the Holiday Inn in China Town NYC. Still gamers were lost in the gathering, even some of the Empire’s own.

The conference and demonstration however still went on with the 30 to 40 gamers attending the conference. The panelist consist of TriForce CEO of Empire Arcadia, Wyldflower President of Valkyries of Arcadia, Nightmare Vice President of Valkyries of Arcadia, Damon P. Scott President of JC Media + Entertainment LLC, Chastity Irizarry CEO of JC Media + Entertainment LLC and Brian “Neatchee” Resnik Host of GGL’s Inside the Game.
The conference discussed several matters concerning the gaming culture and outlook that society has on gamers. There was a moment of silence given to the fallen victims of Virginia Tech and the conclusion was brought to the conference. The gamers changed venues to NYCLAN where the remainder of the event took place and Inside the Game covered most the gamer’s demonstration.

When asked what type of gamers are there in the videogame industry some of the gamers in the interview gave their opinion on the subject and it came down to a gamer playing the game they love for over an extensive period of time. TriForce however did not fully agree with the opinions of the gamers because he felt that there are too many facets to be a gamer to define one set way as being a gamer.
“There are so many elements to being a hardcore gamer and each of them to their own right is legitimate. To me one of the many elements that is needed to be a hardcore gamer is to pretty much live the culture of it. That will require time and experience as a gamer both professional and personal. I prefer to call the term hardcore gamer; the Cultured gamer.”

With gamers having input on so many levels of gaming it is not fair to state which one in particular defines best of what a hard core gamer is. Some gamers spend fewer hours playing games and are more into the technical development side of it. The point remains that their devoted interest into the “lifestyle” of gaming is what makes them Hardcore. There are those that would argue that the skill of a gamer would determine whether or not the gamer was hardcore. In all fairness however a gamer’s ability to master or compete in a game has nothing to do with his or her dedication but more so the level of skill he or she has. TriForce brought it down to the point that hardcore gamers is about involvement. How involved a gamer is in the culture of videogames whether it may be from the industry side, the community side or just a gamer who plays 18 hours a day are all hardcore gamers.
Although many believed that the message would be lost PBC along with ITG’s bonus coverage was able to completely document the entire event and all the gamers responsible for the event. This is really just the beginning of things to come in the immediate future as the voice of gamers has now officially created a foundation on which it can be supported. MTV, PBC, ITG and more are now interested in covering the very depth of the Greater Gamer Community and its Culture. Empire Arcadia is closely working with these media company’s to ensure that the real take on things is what the viewing public will see.
