For the second year in a row MTV has kept a literal eye on the ever emerging gamer culture. Throughout the last 12 months MTV has come to a better understanding of what it is to be a gamer. Although there are still a few kinks to work out the progress report on how MTV covers the culture of gamers has immensely increased in such a short period of time. Having covered the release of the latest videogames to promoting gamers who have musical talents intergraded into the way they express their love for gaming, is a testament to how “MEDIA” can help promote the gamers culture like no other.

Starting November 13th 2006 through the 18th; MTV will be hosting their second annual “Gamers Week” on their network. Gamers Week 2.0 will be hosting Empire Arcadia again along with other gamers from MLG and the greater gamer community. This year Empire Arcadia has worked with MTV for several months to put together a reality show premiere of the actual “LIFE” of what it is to be a gamer in Empire Arcadia. Being a gamer in Empire Arcadia is more than just playing the games we love; it is about contributing to the growth of the gamer culture and community. Empire Arcadia continues to lead in this development of the gamer culture and community by focusing on other elements that express the value and love of gaming.

Working with MTV has brought Empire Arcadia to focus on the “media” element of gaming. The reality show is based on the true adventures of members in Empire Arcadia and what they experienced. Although most of what will be shown during the week is true; some elements of the reality show have been exaggerated for entertainment value. This entertainment value makes it more digestible for mainstream to get an understanding as to why gamers are so passionate about their culture. It is the first step in a positive direction for gamers to be properly exposed to the world, other than on a competitive level.

Sucker Free on MTV will feature gamers from
Empire Arcadia during Gamers Week 2.0

Gamers Week 2.0 will provide more than just media content. During that week both Nintendo and Sony PlayStation will be launching their newest gaming consoles. Empire Arcadia will be on hand at these launches to traditionally camp out, so that they can be the first in line to receive these highly anticipated new consoles. What we’ve found out is that Toy’s R Us on 44th and Broadway in mid-town Manhattan will be holding a midnight launch. Source The Nintendo World Store will be hosting a launch of its own on the 19th of November. Gamers who have reserved the system will be able to receive their systems while being entertained by members of the Empire outside Nintendo World during that night.

For many years media has stereotyped gamers and have degraded our image to that of an unhealthy, bad hygiene, anti social degenerate with nothing constructive to do with our lives other than to play games. Although this is not completely false as you will always have bad apples in any society or culture it is unfair to say that in general we are. Like any culture you will have those who misrepresent the majority of the population however the good in all cultures always out weighs the bad; this stand true and the same for the gamer culture. The time for gamers is NOW! Empire Arcadia’s gamers are a prime example of this. So during Gamers Week 2.0 come out and get involved with your community. If you are not in the major cities such as New York and L.A. then you can still be part of the action by tuning in to MTV during the whole week of Gamers Week 2.0.
