Phoenix Dynasty: Arcadian Champion of Time
Throughout the course of 60 years in video game history, we have seen its share of trailblazers and the mason’s that have built the very structure of the video games industry. They are the pioneers that erected the very pillars of the gaming industry which gave birth to our culture; Fusajiro & Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nolan Bushnell, Ralph Baer, Raymond Moloney and more are the forefathers of the gaming industry. They are by gamers standards considered the “Elder God’s” of gaming.
It was not until the late 70’s early 80’s that the final Elder God would enter the gaming scene. Walter Day most recognized for his life’s work in establishing competitive gaming through Twin Galaxies for what we now call eSports; laid the ground work for a new generation of gaming personalities that we know today. Of the many champions born from competitive gaming, one has set a benchmark by Guinness World Record Standards for console gaming. His name is Todd Rogers, he is the oldest member of Empire Arcadia who is still active in gaming.
On September 1st, 2012 Todd Rogers became the oldest record holder for a console game by Guinness World Record standards. The date marked the anniversary of his accolade. Later in 2012, Guinness World Record issued an official World Record to commemorate the anniversary of the original record in competitive gaming that Todd set over 30 years ago. Certifying Todd Rogers as “The longest-standing videogaeming score record is held” for 30 years and 91 days as of November 30th, 2012.
In a past article called “30 Years in the Making” Todd Rogers record is poised to be the longest standing world record in the history of video games because of the nature of his record. “Every other non perfect record in gaming will eventually fall ” says Isaiah TriForce Johnson, founder of Empire Arcadia; “but Todd’s record will remain because he was able to beat something that is considered programmable to be unbeatable.”
Todd Rogers left this comment about his accolade: “I would like to first thank Guinness World Record for recognizing the anniversary of my accomplishment in gaming. I would like to also thank all those who support competitive gaming for the work Walter has done for us back then to what competitive gaming is now. I finally would like to thank my gaming team Empire Arcadia for its continued work and support for gaming over all. I will continue to represent them to the best of my ability by honoring its legacy in competitive gaming.”
