| Nintendo DS on steady track to reach 6 million |

New sales figures show Nintendo's latest portable reaching its predicted milestone.
Nintendo has done it again when it comes to the hand held market. Providing gamers with innovating content they are glued to 10 million screens around the world. The new handheld which features a stylus touch screen play and two screens in a clam shell-type design, has surpassed the 5 million units sold mark through mid-March, according to sales figures released by Nintendo. Nintendo previously predicted that sales of the Nintendo DS would fall between five and six million through March 2005, and says it is currently "on track" to meet that goal.
The worldwide release of the Nintendo DS has given Nintendo full control of its current rule in the handheld gaming market. Its main competitor, Sony's PlayStation Portable holds to a solid since its release in Japan dating late 2004 and its US launch in March of 2005. Sony was able to reach its mark of 1 million PSP's world wide whereas the DS has been released in Japan and North America since December 2004, and subsequently in Oceania and Europe totaling in at 5 million. Sony recently announced that the PSP will invade its third region, Europe , September 1.
